Society Design 2010-2012

In 2006-2007 The Beach researched and mapped the potential of creative processes for innovation. Since then, the debate over the application and desirability of creative modernization processes has intensified, and is now embraced and supported by a broader range of participants. However, the various institutions that play a fundamental role in the functioning of our society (both public and private) often lack the skills needed for innovation - both in terms of developing their in-house creative resources and in engaging in successful alliances with others. At the same time the creative sector is not capturing all the opportunities for further growing the value of their contribution to the creation of a ‘vital society’. To address these issues The Beach, together with Evert Ypma (independent design strategist and researcher at the Zurich University of the Arts), is initiating the project Society Design. Visual screeners for common mental disorders

Visual screeners are verbalised & visualised questionnaires. The first Visual Screener measures common mental disorders and is now in the scientific validation proces. Its aim is to detect relevant mood, anxiety and alcohol-related problems and to guide people to problem solving measures / internet-self-help modules appropriate for their problem. video interview on social entrepreneurship

See the new research in focus feature of LabforCulture on Social entrepreneurship: new ways of working, future trends and opportunities.
Quote Bas Ruyssenaars: "We need to find new actions, more sustainability, we are in a cultural crisis, not only in a financial crisis, and because there is a lack of trust in institutions and organisations, and the values we agree on, there is a lack of shared meaning."
